KNIT has come of age. It was way back in October 1994 that Prof. J.L. Kotwal, who had just retired from active service as Principal, G.G.M Science College Jammu, Visualised the possibility of establishing an institution on "No Profit No Loss" basis to serve as a beacon light for the comparatively backward student population of Jammu region, with an overwhelmingly rural back ground.
Having functioned as a Professor, an administrator and a renowned social reformer, Prof. Kotwal mustered the courage and strength to embark upon the venture resulting in the opening of a multi-purpose Institute that has all along provided guidance, coaching and all the pre-requisites at competitive levels to student community hailing from all sections of society.
The overall framework is based on a number of basic concepts and practices. Above average students are groomed and guided properly to compete at the national and state levels while the average and the below-average have done reasonably well after proper guidance from experienced subject specialists during the last 17 years of the existence of the Institute. The performance of the students has been remarkable as is indicated by the table under the caption examination results.
KNIT has acted as a powerful catalyst to shape the academic life of a large number of students who have found a place in the overall educational fabric of the State as also at the National level. It is in this context that the institute has provided all essentials for the successful implementation of 10+2 level state and Central Board Examinations with the result that our students have found their way into the leading Engineering and Medical Colleges of the country besides many more getting into the administrative services and the National Defence Academy.
The basic concept that has guided the institution lies in a Juxtaposition of patriotism, secular tradition, socialism and above all a global vision. The institute has followed these ideas vigourously from the very inception and the development of personality as disciplined citizens has been our main priority.
We are reminded of a memorable observation made by the philosopher Francis Bacon, “Strike, secure for delight, for ornament and for stability; read not to contradict and confuse, nor to believe and take for granted but to weigh and consider. It is this dictum that has guided us in our efforts to make KNITians a successful group of citizens who have all along displayed excellence in academic broadmindedness in social behaviour and rationality in thoughts and action.
In view of the encouraging response we propose to go ahead and not to rest on Oars. What we propose to do in future is based on the understanding that globalization is the agenda now and our students have to prepare themselves for an international contact to make themselves available for programmes at a level beyond the contours of the State and the country.
KNIT is committed to follow the aim of quality education for an international frame work without losing sight of our cultural heritage based on the principle of unity in diversity and oneness of humanity. We propose to follow the goal with all dedication at our dispoasal.
